St. Peter's School Cultural Diversity Bazaar

Ben and Deb manned the Israel table at St. Peter's.  We gave stuffed dates as a taste of Israel, and distributed tourism materials.  This is a nice event with lots of young children and their parents in attendance.

KCKCC Ethnic Fair

Art brought the Israel booth to Kansas City Community College and provided tourism materials and answered questions.

Open Range Fellowship Israel Fair

The Israel Spirit Committee was invited to host an Israel fair at the Open Range Fellowship in Lone Jack, MO.  The Tikvah Dancers and Henry's band provided lots of music and dance entertainment.  Orit and Efi stamped passports and wrote names in Hebrew.  Ben brought mosaics, and Vicki supervised the hands-on archeology for the kids.  Nissim did teaching on Hebrew language as we cleaned up the kitchen.  The food offerings were:  coconut macaroons, dates, raspberry gazos, hot mint tea, and a falafel plate with pita, Israeli salad and olives.  The food was prepared by Nissim, Sheila, Nancy, Greg, TJ, Deb and some church volunteers.  Erin was the face of the kitchen and sold our food to the attendees.  A good time was had by all.

Jewish Arts Festival

We hosted a booth at the biennial Jewish Arts Festival at the JCC.  We had apples & honey, and coconut macaroons for sale, and distributed tourism materials.  Sue Ellen and the Nachums each had art/craft tables as well.  It was such a chilly day, that we would have done great if we had a hot drink for sale, so next JAF, we'll have sachlab or another Israeli hot drink.

Barstow School World Fair

Art brought the Israel booth to the Barstow School and distributed tourism materials and answered questions.

American Royal Parade rained out

Deb, Erin and TJ were going to represent Israel on the EEC float, but the parade was rained out.

Ethnic Enrichment Festival

The annual Ethnic Enrichment Festival was great this summer.  The weather was fine and attracted about 35,000 people to the festival in Swope Park.  We sold out of falafel, hummus, macaroons, apples & honey and Israeli salad.  By the end of Sunday, all we had was lemonade, some Coca Cola, and dates!  Nissim helped attract people to the booth and offered samples of our great food.  Thanks to all our wonderful volunteers.  And, of course, the Tikvah Dancers performed on Sunday afternoon.

Kansas City Museum

Art, Sue Ellen, Mary and Deb provided programming on Israel at the Museum open house.  Art did some story-telling, Sue Ellen brought her hands-on archeology, and Sue Ellen and Mary taught some dancing.

New alternate commissioner for Israel

Ben Nachum is the new alternate Commissioner for Israel on the Ethnic Enrichment Commission. He will be sworn in as soon as his paperwork is processed.  Congratulations, Ben!

EEC Silent Auction

Deb attended the EEC Silent Auction on Ward Parkway.  The silent auction is a benefit for the John Duncan EEC Scholarship.  She bid on angel food pans, and won them.

Yom HaAtzmaut

The Israel Spirit group helped out at the Yom HaAtzmaut celebration at the JCC is a variety of roles, from ticket-selling, to food preparation, to Jerusalem Stone engraving, to attending.

KCKCC Human Reunion

Sheila joined Deb at the Israel table, the Tikvah Dancers performed, and Sue Ellen sold some jewelry.  We had some great discussions about Israel, tourism and Kansas City's Jewish community with the attendees.

Northland Ethnic Festival

The Tikvah Dancers performed, Sue Ellen sold some jewelry, Deb and Maddie manned the table with tourism information, dates and apricots for sale, and participated in the Commissioners' Fashion Show at this annual event at Park Hill South High School in Kansas City.

Flower, Lawn & Garden Show at Bartle Hall

Deb circulated and distributed EEF flyers at the Flower, Lawn & Garden Show, and then told some Chelm stories after the awards presentation.

4-H Global Celebration

The Israel contingent brought blue Israeli brownie sundaes (blue sprinkles) and hummus & pita.  The Tikvah Dancers performed and had excellent audience participation in the public dancing.

Olathe North High School Ethnic Fair

The Tikvah Dancers performed and Deb had an information table at this fair hosted by the freshman honor society of Olathe North High School.

African Roots Diplomatic Ball

Israel had a great turnout at the EEC Diplomatic Ball.  We had a table and a half!

EEC 2012 Outreach Award - First Place!

Israel received the First Place prize for 2012 outreach at the EEC Winter Social.  Deb received both the large traveling award and a permanent glass award.  The Tikvah Dancers performed as part of the award ceremony and Deb told a brief Chelm story.  We're thrilled!
